Sociactive, a made up word and name of our company, could be considered a synonym for networking.
Before we explain, do you think that networking is good for you, your business, finding new employees, or finding clients? The answer is a brutally objective ‘no’ in terms of the current characterization of networking. Networking… bad. Sociacting… good. Yeah, we just turned it into a verb.
Hear we go…
Sociactive is a term (adjective) that describes being social and active – physically active and socially integrated in your community and environment. Living a sociactive life is an ideal. It is a way to live where people and businesses balance work life with personal life, as well as virtual life with real life. People and businesses that are sociactive actively participate in social arenas in which they are vested (i.e. community, city, government). They actively communicate those lessons learned through social settings, including the Internet, to pass on their thoughts, wisdom and insight.
Today, the word networking has come to imply schmoozing to establish shallow, fake, relationships that are neither verified or validated. Though we don’t want to be associated with that current impression of networking, we believe that the principle behind the word is synonymous with what is real networking – meeting people, interacting and exchanging ideas.
Though the ideal behind the word we use to describe this organization could be considered by some to be synonymous with networking, it is not current, pop-culture’s idea of networking – schmoozing to establish shallow, fake, relationships that are neither verified or validated. We feel that the principle behind the word is synonymous with what is real networking – meeting people, interacting and exchange ideas.
Life is making connections in the world (you can call it networking if you wish), but we shudder when we hear people say, “You need to network.” The term takes on the meaning of BSing to establish relationships that are neither validated or verified.
Again, networking is bad, sociacting is good.
Who would want to vouch for someone they don’t know, whether for business development or a job? Someone trying to make a quick buck. So stay away from networkers and become sociactive.
Maybe people should just stop using the word ‘networking’. Or maybe people should stop trying to disguise schmoozing, pandering or brown nosing with a simple and antiseptic-sounding word like networking. Sociactive sounds better right? “You should sociate.” Yep that’s a new noun and a third word.
By the way, the same goes for social media and social websites. Use them exclusively for staying in touch with family and established friends. Be sure to not rely on them for your communication channels. They are superfluous and change every few years as advertising increases and people leave.
